Did you read Secrets of the Baby Whisperer when you became a parent?
If so, how did that work out for you?
Secrets of the Baby Whisperer celebrates its 20th anniversary November!
My co-author, the late Tracy Hogg — the Baby Whisperer — never set out to peddle a “program.” She knew that every baby was different. Instead of offering one-size-fits-all solutions, Tracy wanted to give parents skills that would help them tune in to their baby.
Many baby-care books have been published in the last 2o years. Secrets lives on (in my humble and unbiased opinion!) because Tracy’s common-sense approach works.
Just as important, Secrets is supported by a global force of mothers, fathers, and nannies who have learned from the book and are now baby whisperers themselves — including Tracy’s older daughter Sara. Even President Obama got into the act!
The 20th birthday of Secrets of the Baby Whisperer presents an unprecedented opportunity to ask the million or more readers who’ve embraced Tracy’s philosophy what they see in the rearview mirror:
- How have your baby-whispered children fared?
- Which ideas and techniques worked best?
- Which ones fell by the wayside or never felt right?
Just so you know: You’re not the only one I’m asking for feedback!
I also posted on the Baby Whisperer forum, which Tracy launched in 2000 and The Baby Whisperers, a Facebook group for
…all the parents out there dedicated to Tracy Hogg, the Baby Whisperer. She gave us 3 books filled with great advice and support.”
This is what I wrote to both groups:
Old Timers, What Has Baby Whispering Done For You?
OMG, somehow almost six years have gone by since I last visited these forums. I am no longer writing any new Dear Family Whisperer columns for Huffington Post — a few years ago they dropped their original contributor platform. I’m still blogging at MelindaBlau.com where I cover a variety of topics.
Amazingly, 2021 will mark the 20th Anniversary of Secrets of the Baby Whisperer. Although many books have come and gone since then, Secrets remains a classic, a one-of-a-kind primer on baby care. It’s the only book that speaks on behalf of the baby!
Sara (one of Tracy Hogg’s daughters) and I have been talking to the publisher about how to acknowledge and commemorate the book. Can you help? Especially if you participated in this forum from the beginning, your babies are probably almost old enough to have babies themselves!
I’m reaching out; please reach back! Tell me what the book did for you, for your baby, and for your family. I also welcome your ideas about spreading the word to the next generation of new parents.
Tracy would be so proud to see how her work and her unique philosophy of baby care has lived on through all of you. It is truly what she always wanted.
I ended the message with “I look forward to reconnecting!!” And I meant it. One of the unanticipated benefits of co-creating Secrets of the Baby Whisper with Tracy is that I am still part of the world-wide community our work inspired.

Sounds like a great project. Looking forward to the results.
