This post was first published in 2015. I was reminded of it recently after seeing “This One’s For the Girls,” a review of women’s loves and lives told through music.*
Will You Miss Me?
Do you think about me when you’re writing contracts
Or on the tennis court
When you’re walking to the office
Or selling stocks (or others) short?
Do you think about me when I’m with the kids
When I’m making dinner
Do you see that I’m growing sadder
Have you noticed I’m also thinner?
Do you think about me when you’re with her
When she’s doing what I won’t do
When you’re planning your escape
Do you imagine what I go through?
Do you think about the neighbors
Or what they will think
Do you know that your own children
Are starting to drink?
Have you noticed how I dress now
Or that the game’s still on
Do you think I’ll always be here
Will you miss me when I’m gone?
